Quality assurance and accreditation

Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell at BUET since 2023, having served as Additional Director from 2015. The Cell operates the quality assurance mechanism covering the academic and administrative activities of eighteen programme-offering entities.

Member-Secretary of the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE) from March 2021 to March 2024, the national body responsible for accreditation of engineering programmes in Bangladesh, which applies the graduate attributes and accreditation criteria associated with the Washington Accord. Responsibilities included constituting evaluation teams, organising evaluator training, developing accreditation policy and criteria documents, and liaison with national and international accreditation bodies.

Enlisted quality assurance expert; reviewed ten programmes at the University of Dhaka, the University of Rajshahi, Jahangirnagar University and Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. Appointed by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh in 2016 to review a proposed undergraduate chemical engineering curriculum.

Editorial and peer review

Reviewer for fifteen international journals, on average once every four months. Managerial Editor of the Chemical Engineering Research Bulletin from 2008 to 2011.

Consultancy

Consultant with the Bureau of Research, Testing and Consultation at BUET since 2014, with more than twenty commissioned assignments. These include an energy efficiency roadmap prepared for the World Bank, determination of yield patterns for national refineries, assessment of the annual operating cost of a flue gas desulphurisation system, evaluation of technical offers for industrial incinerators, waste characterisation for municipal waste-to-energy projects, and the design of an effluent treatment plant.

Public engagement

Commentary on national energy policy published in Energy and Power Magazine, including on high efficiency low emissions coal technologies and on the environmental assessment of the Rampal power plant, and occasional participation in television discussion programmes on energy issues.
